Today’s Focus: Complete YIELDEDNESS to God
Text: Job 22: 21 – 29
Introduction: We all struggle with God in many things. But real miracle happens to us when we ‘lose control of our lives’ and are fully yielded to God’s daily instructions, even when such instructions are not convenient to the sinful nature we carry.
One of the saints of Old once said “If you can be “foolish” enough to obey God completely (and promptly) you will definitely become a candidate of signs and wonders”. Most divine instructions that have produced outstanding miracles in the Bible at first did not make sense.
In the course of our studies on this topic, we shall be considering a few of them. May the Lord use these studies to align each one of us with His will so that we can encounter Him in a unique way.
1. DEFINITION OF CONCEPTS
i. DIVINE ENCOUNTER: To ‘Encounter’ means, to come into counteracting collision with another. To come into definite impact with God in such a way that it counteracts one’s way and creates an indelible change in one’s life and direction. Please Note the following characteristics of Divine Encounter:- a. Usually divine encounters are sudden, unplanned, unexpected or accidental b. It is usually very violent, compelling and counteracting – but often a turning point in a man’s life and ministry. c. It not organized but agonized. So for you to experience it you have to start to pray for it NOW!
ii. YIELDEDNESS a. Complete yieldedness to God means:- – To be totally committed to God – To hold nothing back – To be totally obedient to Him in every area of our lives – To yield in every way to what God’s will is for us. – To give up – To Submit – To concede – To give in to higher pressure
b. Biblical Basis for our yieldedness: Mark 12: 30 ——————————————————————————————- John 5:30 ———————————————————————————————–Matt 6: 33 ———————————————————————————————Matt 13: 44 ——————————————————————————————–Mark 8: 34 ———————————————————————————————
c. When it comes to yieldedness, Jesus is our standard Phil 2:10 – Jesus was totally committed to God – Jesus held nothing back from His Father – Jesus was obedient in every area of His life – Even to the point of death – The death of the cross. Jesus yielded to God’s will at the time of His greatest testing. He prayed, “not my will, but Yours (God) be done.”
2. YIELDEDNESS – The mark of true repentance 2 Cor 5: 17 According to Billy Graham: “Absolute dependency and absolute yieldedness are the conditions of being God’s child” Let us consider 2Cor 5: 15 check other translations
a. From 2Cor 5: 15 reference what could you say is the purpose of our salvation experience?
b. What provision has God made to enable us live a completely yielded life? c. What advantages do we stand to gain when we allow our lives to be fully controlled and governed by the Holy Spirit. How Yielded are you? Are you completely yielded?
