At the tick of a second, several thousands are still dying today without a single opportunity to hear about Christ! Yet the church of Christ is sitting idle in the market place.

I recall that about 150 years ago (Sept. 24 1842 – Sept. 24 1990) Bro. Thomas freedman along with other brethren came to Nigeria as pioneer missionaries. In the process they laboured so that we (Nigerians) might know him (Jesus). Having forgone the comfort of their countries they came to be exposed to a lot of hardship, hostilities among our people and even death. In the midst of all these they even refuse to go back to their countries even if it is to die. They made their graves among us! Why, Because of their selfless love for Christ and commitment to make him known among the nations.

Above all they reasoned in themselves that if Christ died for them. They also ought to lay their lives as a price paid for their salvation of other people. After all, it worth’s nothing whatever costs nothing. Christianity is worth professing, it is equally worth dying for.

Within a few years of their coming, these men in their determination and zeal for God made tremendous impact on our nation. Through their works this land of darkness (Nigeria) has seen a great light. Many of them the bible says had trials of cruel mocking and scourging’s yet moreover of and imprisonment. They were stoned they were sawn asunder, were tempted, slain with the sword, they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins being destitute afflicted tormented men whom the world was not worthy.

The wandered in deserts and on mountains and dens and caves of the earth. And these all having obtained a good report through faith received not the promise; God having provided some better thing for us that they without us should not be made perfect. Upon all their commitments and sacrifices they could not finish the job, but they got God’s certificate of divine approval (Good report).

Why are they unable to finish the job? The bible says God has ordained that without us they should not be made perfect. From the above passage it seems to me that we occupy an important position in God’s end time programme. Several passages points to this fact ….. We are the generation upon which the end of the age has come. The eleventh hour generation!
